Scope of Investigation
Direct Inquiry is the practical application of non-dual philosophy. Rather than accumulating concepts or beliefs, it uses the intellect to investigate the nature of the seeker.
By tracing the sense of identity back to its source, this root aims to dissolve false identifications and reveal the ever-present Witness.
01
Self-Inquiry (Atma Vichara)
Popularized by Ramana Maharshi, Self-Inquiry is the practice of reversing attention. Seekers ask 'Who am I?' to trace the 'I-thought' back to its source.
This turns the light of awareness back onto itself, bypassing verbal thoughts.
02
Neti Neti (The Method of Negation)
The Upanishadic practice of subtracting objective attributes: 'I am not this body, not these emotions, not these thoughts.'
By negating what can be observed, it isolates the unattached Seer.
03
The Witness (Sakshee)
The realization that you are the changeless background of awareness within which all thoughts, sensations, and events arise.
You are the screen, not the movie playing on it.
