Neti Neti (Negation)

The Core Inquiry

What remains when everything that can be observed is subtracted?

Scope of Investigation

Neti Neti ('not this, not this') is the classical Upanishadic method of discrimination (Viveka). It systematically separates the Seer (Drk) from the seen (Drsya), dismantling the false identification of awareness with material forms.

01

Not This, Not This

The process of systematically negating identifications: 'I have a body, but I am not the body. I have thoughts, but I am not the thoughts.' Whatever is observed cannot be the ultimate observer.

02

The Ultimate Residue

When everything observable is negated, what remains is not nothing. It is the infinite, unattached awareness that witnessed the negation itself—the self-luminous Subject.

03

Witnessing the Unseen

The realization that the ultimate observer can never itself be observed, showing that the search for the Self must end in the collapse of all objectification. You cannot see the eye that sees.
