Suffering occurs when we mistake ourselves for the objects of experience (body, ego). Realizing your nature as the Witness dissolves this misidentification. You are the observer of the mind, not the mind itself.
The classical Vedantic analysis of the Witness as separate from the three states of consciousness, observing the mind's modifications without being stained by them. It is the unchanging, self-existent subject.
