Scope of Investigation
The Subtle Body Map deconstructs yogic and tantric energy models (Chakras, Nadis, Kundalini) from an experiential, interoceptive perspective.
It argues that these models are not primitive physiology, but highly sophisticated first-person maps of autonomic arousal, emotional storage, and somatic balance.
01
Prana and Interoception
Prana is experienced not as a gas, but as the felt, alive quality of the physical body. The subtle body map is a systematic representation of somatic sensations (interoception) processed by the insular cortex.
Working with prana changes autonomic tone.
02
Chakras & The Nervous System
The major Chakras (energy centers) align closely with the main nerve plexuses (cervical, cardiac, celiac) and endocrine glands of the physical body.
They represent concentrated regions of visceral feedback and autonomic regulation.
03
Nadis and Energy Flow
Nadis are the subtle pathways of energy. The major nadis—Ida (cooling, parasympathetic) and Pingala (heating, sympathetic)—wind around the central Sushumna channel.
This maps the balance of the autonomic nervous system, which can be regulated through pranayama.
